Vimbodí i Poblet will present his Jujolian work: the altar of the Virgin Mary of Montserrat that the modernist architect Josep Maria Jujol (1879-1949) designed in 1941 for the parish church of la vila. To spread his work, the Town Hall of Vimbodí i Poblet has adhered to the Jujol140 Year, to publicize the figure and work of the Tarragona architect on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of his birth.
All the adhered municipalities, sixteen in total, will carry out different cultural events from now until September of the year 2019.
In Vimbodí, Jujol designed the altar and other elements of the chapel of the Virgin Mary of Montserrat on behalf a family to Vimbodí who wanted to thank the shelter he found in the town of Vimbodí during the Civil War. This family had lived years ago in Argentina, which is why the country’s coat of arms is on the front of the altar.
These and other details will be known in a guided tour of the chapel that the City of Vimbodí and Poblet and the Parish of the Transfiguration of the Lord will carry out coinciding with the summer festival in the municipality, the first weekend of this next month of August. The act will be in charge of the art historian and master in Heritage Management Damià Amorós, who is currently developing his professional work in the Monastery of Poblet.
