Coinciding with the 140th anniversary of the birth of the architect Josep Maria Jujol, the Town Hall of Sant Joan Desp\u00ed promotes the celebration of the Jujol 140 Year, an artistic, cultural and social movement to disseminate the figure of Jujol, a reference artist of modernism Catalan and author of architectural jewels such as Can Negre or Torre de la Creu, in Sant Joan Desp\u00ed, or the Teatre Metropol in Tarragona.<\/p>\n

The Mayor of Sant Joan Desp\u00ed, Antoni Poveda, presented the celebration of the Jujol 140 Year this Thursday, 7th June at the Jujol-Can Negre Center, at a press conference where the mayor of Tarragona, Josep F\u00e8lix, also attended Ballesteros, and Josep Maria Jujol Jr. son of the architect. The event was attended by representatives of different municipalities with works by Jujol and institutions that support the event.<\/p>\n

The celebration of the Jujol 140 Year starts this June until September 2019, when the 140 years of the birth of Jujol will be fulfilled. During the Jujol 140 Year, cultural, recreational, commercial, tourist, heritage, promotional, social and civic activities will be organized in Sant Joan Desp\u00ed, city that promotes the event, as well as in other municipalities linked to the figure of Josep Maria Jujol.<\/p>\n

The Mayor of Sant Joan Desp\u00ed, Antoni Poveda, pointed out that “it is about to put the figure of Jujol and his work in the place they deserve, giving them the dimension and importance they had within modernism.”<\/p>\n

“We have invited all municipalities that have the work of the architect to be able to participate in the Jujol 140 Year, in order to bring the figure of Jujol closer to the public and to spread the work that he did in Sant Joan Desp\u00ed and in others points of Catalonia.\u201d Antoni Poveda highlighted.<\/p>\n

Institutional complicity <\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Jujol 140 Year has already added the complicity of fifteen municipalities with works by the architect, as well as institutions, entities, organizations and personalities in the world of architecture and culture, such as the Jujol Archive, the Gaud\u00ed Chair, the Gimn\u00e0stic Club of Tarragona, the Baix Llobregat County Council, the Cruyff Foundation, the Trencad\u00eds Modernisme Foundation, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia; the director of the 48h Open House BCN, Elisenda Bonet; the architect Toshiaki Tange; or the writer Luis Campo Vidal.<\/p>\n

During the presentation of the event, Josep F\u00e8lix Ballesteros, the mayor of Tarragona, one of the adhered cities, congratulated the initiative of Sant Joan Desp\u00ed and revealed “the need to put in value a figure like Jujol, which is part of the ADN of Tarragona and the presence we find throughout the city. ”<\/p>\n

The Jujol 140 Year wants to contribute to the dissemination of the work of Josep Maria Jujol, a total artist who, more than an architect, was decorator, painter, sculptor and designer. Jujol left a great legacy in Sant Joan Desp\u00ed -Can Negre, Torre de la Creu, Torre Jujol, Casa Serra-Xaus, among others- and many places in Catalonia.<\/p>\n

Durant l\u2019Any Jujol140 s\u2019organitzaran activitats culturals, l\u00fadiques, comercials, tur\u00edstiques, patrimonials, promocionals, socials i ciutadanes<\/strong>, a Sant Joan Desp\u00ed, ciutat que promou l\u2019esdeveniment, i tamb\u00e9 a altres municipis vinculats a la figura de Josep Maria Jujol.\r\n\r\nL\u2019alcalde de Sant Joan Desp\u00ed, Antoni Poveda, ha apuntat que \u201ces tracta de posar la figura de Jujol i la seva obra al lloc que mereixen, tot donant-los la dimensi\u00f3 i la import\u00e0ncia que va tenir dins del modernisme\u201d.\r\n\r\n\u201cHem convidat tots els ajuntaments que tenen obra de l\u2019arquitecte perqu\u00e8 puguin participar de l\u2019Any Jujol140, per tal d\u2019acostar la figura de Jujol a la ciutadania i difondre l\u2019obra que va realitzar a Sant Joan Despi\u0301 i en altres punts de Catalunya\u201d, ha destacat Antoni Poveda.\r\n
